Cumulative record

In Japanese: 指導要録 (shido yoroku)

Definition

A cumulative record (shido yoroku) records a pupil’s enrollment and the course and results of their education; school law requires the principal to keep one.

In more detail

The principal prepares a cumulative record for each enrolled pupil and sends an extract or copy to the next school on progression, or a copy on transfer.

It is in principle kept for five years; the enrollment section (admission, graduation and so on) is kept for 20 years.

It holds criterion-based assessments, overall grades and the attendance record, and is the basis for report cards and admission reports.

MEXT describes the cumulative record as the master record behind certificates issued to outside parties.

In Classio

In Classio, the 通知表・要録・調査書 screen builds cumulative-record data from grades, attendance and health-room records.
