Student fees
In Japanese: 学納金 (gakunokin)
Definition
Student fees (gakunokin) is the umbrella term for money students pay the school, such as tuition, the admission fee and the facilities fee.
In more detail
It is not a legal term; each school sets the kinds of fees, amounts and due dates.
MEXT surveys tuition, admission and facilities fees at private universities. For students entering private universities (undergraduate) in academic year 2025, the averages were ¥968,069 tuition, ¥240,365 admission fee and ¥172,550 facilities fee, ¥1,507,647 in total for the first year.
Instalments, reductions and scholarships all affect what is owed, so billing and payment tracking is core school work.
In Classio
In Classio, Fees & Scholarships records invoices and payments and matches each payment to the invoice it settles.
