School collection fees

In Japanese: 学校徴収金 (gakko choshukin)

Definition

School collection fees (gakko choshukin) are costs a school collects from parents, such as for materials, school lunch and school trips.

In more detail

MEXT lists school-lunch fees, materials, items bought on admission, graduation costs, school trips and outings among school collection fees.

Collecting and managing materials and trip fees has been classed as work that should basically be done outside schools, and a MEXT notice of April 2025 asks local governments to bring it into public accounts or to have parents pay suppliers directly.

Where the school collects, it needs records of invoices, payments, follow-up on unpaid amounts and refunds of any balance.

In Classio

Classio has screens for school collection fees at elementary, lower and upper secondary schools (year fees, materials, school-trip savings, PTA dues and so on).
