School-recommendation selection

In Japanese: 学校推薦型選抜 (gakko suisen-gata senbatsu)

Definition

School-recommendation selection (gakko suisen-gata senbatsu) is a university admissions method based on the high-school principal’s recommendation, assessed mainly on the admission report.

In more detail

Applicants cannot apply on their own initiative alone; the principal of their high school decides whether to recommend them.

Universities must state their recommendation requirements as concretely as possible in their application guidelines and must assess applicants by interview or similar, except in some non-public recommendation arrangements that guarantee admission.

For students entering in academic year 2027, applications open on or after 1 November 2026 and results are announced on or after 1 December 2026.

In Classio

In Classio, a decision on an applicant is submitted with its reason and evidence (scoring and interview records) and approved by a different administrator.
