Student ID number

In Japanese: 学籍番号 (gakuseki bango)

Definition

A student ID number is the number a school gives each enrolled pupil or student to identify them.

In more detail

It is assigned on admission and links the student’s grades, attendance and fees while enrolled. After graduation it is still used to identify the person, for example when issuing certificates.

Each school decides its own format; no law sets a national format. Some schools build the admission year or department into the number.

The number itself is not prescribed, but a high school’s cumulative record keeps an enrollment section with the name, date of birth, admission, transfer, leave and graduation.

In Classio

In Classio it is required when a student is formally registered. It is not generated automatically, so enter it in the school’s own numbering.
