Definition
GPA is an indicator of academic performance: grades converted to points and weighted by credits, used for progression, scholarships and career decisions.

Course grades are converted to points and averaged weighted by credits; the exact method varies by school.
A grade management system can calculate it automatically.
Example: a 4-credit course with a grade point of 4 and a 2-credit course with a grade point of 2 give (4×4 + 2×2) ÷ (4 + 2) ≈ 3.33.
How grades map to points (S, A, B, C, D and so on) and whether failed or withdrawn courses are included are set by each school’s rules.
