Graduation requirements
In Japanese: 卒業要件 (sotsugyo yoken)
Definition
Graduation requirements are the conditions, such as the number of credits earned, that a student must meet before the school confers graduation.
In more detail
Under the Standards for the Establishment of Universities, a university student graduates by earning at least 124 credits and meeting any further requirements the university sets.
A 2022 amendment removed the words “enrolled at the university for four years or more”, but four years remains the standard length of study.
The university’s own requirements follow its diploma policy. Graduation from high schools and vocational schools is governed by their own laws and school rules.
In Classio
Classio for universities handles course registration through graduation checks on each student’s record, using GPA and credits to check graduation requirements.
