Employment rate

In Japanese: 就職率 (shushokuritsu)

Definition

The employment rate (shushokuritsu) is the share of graduates seeking work who found it — not the share of all graduates.

In more detail

The MHLW–MEXT survey of graduates’ employment defines the rate as those employed divided by those seeking employment, and samples 6,250 students at 112 institutions.

For university (undergraduate) graduates of March 2026, the rate on 1 April was 98.0%, and 75.6% of graduates sought employment.

Rates schools publish themselves can differ widely depending on whether the denominator is all graduates or job seekers, so check the definition before comparing.
