Accredited Japanese-language institution
In Japanese: 認定日本語教育機関 (nintei nihongo kyoiku kikan)
Definition
An accredited Japanese-language institution is one that the education minister has accredited as able to provide Japanese-language education properly and reliably.
In more detail
The system rests on the Act on accreditation of Japanese-language education institutions, in force since April 2024; institutions apply to be accredited.
Accreditation is granted per programme type — study, work and daily life — and accredited institutions publish information on their teaching and report to the minister every year.
Institutions that accept international students also follow guidance on attendance management and support for continued residence.
Japanese-language institutions that have accepted international students under the notice standards must be accredited by 31 March 2029 to keep accepting them.
In Classio
Classio can produce base data for an accredited institution’s periodic report and a monthly list of enrolled international students to prepare with. It is a data export following the handbook’s definitions, not the portal’s input form itself.
