Permission for activity outside status

In Japanese: 資格外活動許可 (shikakugai katsudo kyoka)

Definition

Permission for activity outside status (shikakugai katsudo kyoka) lets a foreign resident on a status such as Student earn income, for example from part-time work, outside their main activity.

In more detail

International students need this permission to work part-time. With blanket permission they may work up to 28 hours a week, and up to 8 hours a day during their school’s long vacations.

Blanket permission needs only the application form. Paid internships over 28 hours a week need separate, individual permission.

Working beyond the limit can affect a student’s residence, so schools also keep track of students’ working hours.

In Classio

In Classio, Work hours (就労時間) checks each week’s records against these limits (28 hours a week, 8 hours a day in long vacations).
