An Open Badge is an international-standard digital credential that certifies learning outcomes or skills in a verifiable, shareable form.

A badge carries information such as the issuing organisation, the recipient, the criteria and the issue date.
Badges built on the international technical standard (Open Badges) can be shared in a format other services can read. A badge the issuer has digitally signed lets others confirm it has not been altered and who issued it.
Universities and vocational schools may record course completion, qualifications or extracurricular activity as badges that students show in portfolios and job hunting.
