School mail normally comes from your-school.classiomail.com. On the Enterprise plan it can come from a domain your school owns instead (for example mail.school.ac.jp). An administrator with system settings permission sets it up in Domain & email (ドメイン・メール) in the Settings area.

Only these five sender addresses use your domain.

SenderUsed for
notice@School notices
fees@Fee notices
admissions@Applications and admissions
emergency@Emergency messages
news@School news (only for people who asked for it)

Sign-in, password reset, confirmation codes and security notices always come from auth.classio.jp for safety, even when your school uses its own domain.

  1. In School sending domain (学校の送信ドメイン), enter a subdomain used only for sending and press Start setup. Use a subdomain such as mail.school.ac.jp, not your main domain (school.ac.jp), so your school's own email setup is not affected.

  2. Add the records shown to your school's DNS. Give the Name and Value exactly as shown to whoever manages your DNS (there are copy buttons).

  3. Classio checks every 5 minutes. Press Check now to check at once. DNS changes can take a few hours to appear.

  4. When everything checks out, the status becomes Waiting for Classio approval. Two Classio staff confirm and turn it on; administrators are notified and school mail starts coming from your domain.

TypePurpose
CNAME (three)DKIM: signs mail with your domain so it cannot be spoofed.
MX (name starting with bounce.)Where reports about undelivered mail go.
TXT (name starting with bounce.)SPF: which servers may send for that name.
TXT (name starting with _dmarc.)DMARC: your domain's policy. Not needed if your school domain already has one.

Keep these records after the domain is turned on.

Classio checks every day that the records are still there. If the check fails (a record was removed, or the school is no longer on Enterprise), mail does not stop: it automatically goes back to your-school.classiomail.com, and administrators get a notice and an email. Once the records are back, the next check returns mail to your domain by itself.

Press Stop using this domain and type the domain name and a reason. Sending goes back to your-school.classiomail.com first; then Classio removes its setup. When that finishes, remove the records from your school's DNS.

  • Where do replies go? Replies still go to the school addresses registered for each purpose in Sender and reply-to (送信元と返信先).

  • Can we add other sender addresses? No. Only the five above are used.

  • Do recipients need to change anything? People who use domain filtering on mobile carrier mail should add your domain to their allowed list (see When email from Classio does not arrive (receiving settings)).
