The Classio app lets you use Classio as an iPhone or Android app. What you can do is the same as in the browser; you move around with tabs at the bottom and More (その他), as in other apps, and the app adds things only an app can do, such as replying from a notification and locking the app.

The Classio app is not yet available on the App Store or Google Play. Until it is, please keep using Classio in your browser.

  1. When you open the app, Choose your school (学校をえらぶ) appears.

  2. Enter the school ID from your school's letter (for example sakura-juku) or your school's Classio address, and tap Next (次へ).

  3. Check the school name shown, tap Continue (この学校で続ける), and sign in with your usual email address and password or with LINE.

If you don't know your school ID, open Don't know your school ID? (学校IDがわからないとき) and enter the email address you registered. Links to the schools you can use are sent to that address. If the address is not registered, the screen looks the same and no email is sent.

Tapping a link to a school's own Classio address (one that starts with "schoolID.classio.jp") opens it in the app if the app is installed, and the school is added to Schools used on this device (この端末で使った学校).

  • Four tabs you use most and More (その他) sit at the bottom of the screen. The tabs depend on who you are.

  • Guardians get Home (ホーム), Messages (連絡), Notices (お知らせ) and Plans (予定); students Home, Timetable (時間割), Assignments (課題) and Messages; teachers Home, Attendance (出席), Timetable and Messages; office staff Home, To do (未処理), Student list (学生一覧) and Messages.

  • At a 塾 or lesson school, guardians get Home, Bookings (予約), Reports (指導報告) and Fees (月謝); at a kindergarten or nursery, Home, Daily notes (連絡帳), Messages and Notices. Depending on your school's type of education, the features it uses and its menu display settings, a tab may open a different page.

  • A teacher's Timetable (時間割) tab lists the classes they teach this term, day by day. Take attendance (出席をとる) on a class opens Attendance records with that class, day and period already chosen. The school's whole timetable opens from See the school's timetable (学校全体の時間割を見る).

  • The top of the screen shows the page name with the mark of its section, ? (help for this page) and the bell (notifications, with the unread count). Teachers and office staff also get a magnifying glass to find students and pages.

  • When the section has other pages, buttons to switch between them sit under the page name. Tap the page name to see every page of the section.

  • More (その他) shows the pages you used recently and the menu by section. Tap a section to see its pages, or use the search box at the top.

  • Your profile, display language, color mode and text size, notifications, switching schools, the help center and sign-out are also in More. Guardians choose which child to show here too.

  • Forms and confirmations open from the bottom of the screen. Drag the top part down to close them.

  • On pages beyond a tab, tap < at the top left to go back; on iPhone you can also swipe from the left edge, and on Android use the Back gesture or button.

  • On a list, pull down from the top and let go to refresh it.

  • Tapping the tab you are on takes you back to its first screen, or to the top of the page.

After you sign in, Get notifications in this app? (このアプリで通知を受け取りますか?) appears. Tap Turn on notifications (通知を受け取る) and allow notifications when your phone asks; notifications from your school then arrive in the app.

  • When a notification reaches the app, the same notification is not sent by LINE. If it cannot be delivered to the app, it arrives by LINE or email as before.

  • Tapping a notification opens the screen it is about (announcements, messages, absences and make-up lessons, monthly fees and so on). Monthly fee payment links do not need you to sign in, so they open in a browser screen outside the app.

  • Urgent notifications such as the school bus "no child left on board" alert arrive on iPhone as Time Sensitive notifications. Whether they come through during a Focus mode is up to your phone's settings.

  • If you tap Not now (あとで) or turn notifications off in your phone's settings, you can set them up again from the Notification center (通知センター) screen.

  • The number on the app icon is your unread notifications, the same as the bell. Some Android phones show a dot instead of a number.

For a message from your school, press and hold the notification (on Android, expand it) to use Reply (返信) and Mark as read (既読にする). Other notifications offer Mark as read. Both work after you unlock your phone.

  • A reply is sent without opening the app and appears in the message thread.

  • If you have been signed out because some time has passed since your last action, or the phone cannot connect, the reply is not sent. Your reply was not sent (返信は送信されていません) appears: tap it, sign in and open the thread. Your text is back in the input box so you can check it and send it. It is never sent automatically.

For the order in which notifications are delivered and how quiet hours work, see How notifications are delivered.

Tap Switch school (学校を切り替える) in More (その他) to return to Choose your school (the sign-in screen has the same button). Pick one of the Schools used on this device or enter another school ID. Tap × next to a school to remove it from this device's list.

In More (その他) › App settings (アプリの設定) you can lock the app with Face ID, Touch ID or Android biometrics. Each person decides whether to use it.

  • When it is on, the app hides its content when you leave it, and asks for you when you come back after 30 seconds or more and when the app starts. If biometrics are not available, your phone's passcode unlocks it.

  • Turning the lock on or off also asks for you first.

  • The lock protects the screen on your phone. Your sign-in time does not change: one hour after your last action you need to sign in again, as before.

When you have been signed out one hour after your last action, you can sign in again with Face ID, Touch ID or Android biometrics instead of your password. Each person chooses this per device.

  1. While signed in, turn on Sign in again with Face ID (Face IDで再ログイン; the name follows your phone) in More (その他) › App settings (アプリの設定).

  2. Enter your password to confirm. Depending on your school's settings, staff also enter a code sent by email.

  3. From then on, tap Sign in with Face ID (Face IDでログイン) on the sign-in screen.

  • The key is created in your phone's secure hardware and works only with that phone's biometrics. Your password is not stored on the phone.

  • Adding a new face or fingerprint to the phone stops it working; set it up again.

  • Changing your password stops it on every device.

  • See and remove your devices under Devices that sign in with Face ID / fingerprint (Face ID・指紋でログインできる端末) in your Profile (プロフィール). You can remove them from a browser too, for example after losing a phone.

  • After signing in, the session lasts as with a password: one hour after your last action.

Turn on Home screen widget (ホーム画面のウィジェット) in More › App settings to put a Classio widget on your home screen.

  • It shows only today's times (for example Period 2, Lesson or School bus) and how many notices and messages are unread. It never shows the names of children or teachers, or message text.

  • It is updated when you open the app, and never shows a previous day.

  • While the app lock is on it says Locked (ロック中) and keeps nothing on the phone. Signing out empties it.

Guardians and students can tap Show on lock screen (ロック画面に表示) for a running bus in Today's bus (今日のバス) on the home page (on iPhone: the lock screen and the top of the screen; on Android: the notification shade).

  • It shows only the stops remaining to your child's stop (after pick-up, to the classroom) and the expected arrival time. No map and no bus position.

  • With Show automatically when the bus leaves (バスが出発したら自動で表示) it starts when the bus departs, even if the app is closed (iPhone: iOS 17.2 or later).

  • It disappears a while after arrival, and also ends when the run is cancelled or finished.

  • App notifications must be turned on first.

On Scan on device (端末で読み取り) in Arrivals & departures (入退室) and on the Attendance QR code (QR出席コード) screen, Kiosk mode (キオスク表示) lets you leave an iPad at the entrance or in the classroom.

  1. Tap Kiosk mode and enter a staff PIN (4–8 digits) twice. In the app you can also allow Face ID / fingerprint to end it.

  2. Tap Start kiosk mode (キオスク表示を始める). The page fills the screen and the screen stays on. Menus, back and pull-to-refresh are off.

  3. To leave, tap Exit (終了) at the top right and enter the PIN (or use Face ID / fingerprint).

  • Set the direction and device name for arrivals and departures before starting; they cannot be changed in kiosk mode.

  • On iPad, also turn on Guided Access (Settings › Accessibility) to block the Home gesture.

  • It works in a browser too. The browser's own full screen can be ended with browser controls, but kiosk mode itself stays until the PIN is entered.

  • The PIN is kept only on this device for this screen and is never sent.

The app can scan QR codes with your phone's camera.

  • Students scan the QR code for attendance in class with the QR mark at the top of the screen, or Scan a QR code (QRコードを読み取る) in More. Only links to your school's Classio open; other QR codes do not.

  • On the Scan on device (端末で読み取り) tab of Arrivals & departures (入退室), tap Scan with camera (カメラで読み取る) to read card QR codes one after another. After each card, the arrival or departure result is shown (on the camera screen on iPhone, as a short notice on Android). Keep scanning until you close it.

While you write a 連絡帳 (daily note) or a lesson report (指導報告), the text is kept on this device as a draft (in a browser too).

  • When you open that record again, There is an unsaved draft (保存していない下書きがあります) appears; Restore draft (下書きを復元) brings it back.

  • If you save while the device is offline, the save is kept on the device and sent when the connection is back. The draft is removed once it has been sent.

  • No drafts are kept in kiosk mode.

  • When you sign out, this device stops receiving your notifications. If you are signed out automatically after a period without activity, notifications keep arriving.

  • The screens for entering a school ID or email address, and the requests for notification, camera and location permission, appear in your phone's language (Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, Korean or Vietnamese). Reply and Mark as read on notifications and the app lock screen follow the display language you chose in Classio.

  • Files such as certificates and lists open in your phone's preview. If no app on your phone can open a file, a screen for saving or sending it appears instead.

  • The Classio introduction pages, the school directory (教室さがし) and the public help center open in your browser.

  • On the school bus Drive (運転する) screen, the app uses your location only while a run is in progress and keeps the screen on. Your position is compared with the stops on your phone only and is not stored. The app does not use your location while it is closed.
