When you miss (or will miss) lessons for bereavement, suspension, job hunting and similar reasons, tell the school from Excused absence notices (公欠・認欠の届出) in the Attendance (出席) area. Students file for themselves; Guardians file for a linked child.

Once approved, lessons under an authorised absence count neither as absences nor in the attendance rate. Lessons under official leave count as attended (Authorised absence, Officially excused absence).
Send a notice
Open Excused absence notices (公欠・認欠の届出) in the Attendance area. Guardians with more than one child choose the student.
Choose the type and enter the start and end dates. To miss only some lessons, clear All day and choose the periods.
Enter the reason (required for Other).
Choose documents if you have them: PDF, JPEG, PNG or WebP, 10 MB each, up to 5.
Press Send notice (届け出る).
A notice can cover days up to 60 days back and 180 days ahead, at most 60 days at a time. A second all-day notice for days already under review or approved is refused.
The academic office receives the notice and your homeroom teacher is told. Documents show Safety check in progress (安全確認中) until checked; then the school can open them.
Follow the review
Your notices (これまでの届出) lists each notice with its status (Under review, Approved, Not approved, Withdrawn / cancelled), plus official leave the school registered for you. You are also notified of the decision.
Withdraw (取り下げる) a notice you sent while it is under review.
Add document (書類を追加) to a notice under review.
Ask your homeroom teacher why a notice was not approved.
Approved lessons are reflected in Absences by subject (科目別の欠課) on Attendance records (Absences by subject).
